About
Scovic Preservation Consulting was founded in 2025 by Tim Scovic to provide historic preservation consulting services to building owners, architects, engineers, developers, not-for-profit organizations, and municipalities. Tim is a licensed architect in the State of Illinois and exceeds the National Park Service Professional Qualification Standards for Architectural History, Architecture, and Historic Architecture per 36 CFR Part 61. Prior to founding his own firm, he worked for over 18 years for Chicago-based architecture firms specializing in historic preservation where he gained experience conducting historic research, documenting and assessing historic resources, compiling technical reports, historic tax credit consulting, and managing both small and large rehabilitation projects.
Tim has worked on a wide range of projects for private building owners, developers, cultural institutions, universities, not-for-profits, religious organizations, and local, state, and national government agencies. His portfolio includes over two dozen properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places, working with local and state historic preservation officials to make sure the work follows the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. His past project experience includes notable National Historic Landmarks and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. He has also worked on several preservation planning documents and restoration projects for buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, and Mies van der Rohe.
Tim holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati and a Master of Architecture with a Historic Preservation Concentration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and former Chair of the Historic Resources Knowledge Community for AIA Chicago. Tim is also a member of the Association for Preservation Technology (APT), the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and Landmarks Illinois. He was a founding member of the APT Western Great Lakes Chapter, for which he served on the board as Vice President.
Tim has taught courses in 19th and 20th century architectural history and served as a guest lecturer and reviewer at several colleges and universities. He regularly attends conferences and symposiums both locally and nationally to stay up to date on the latest technologies and trends in the historic preservation field.
Outside of work, Tim enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants, swimming, hiking, and spending time with his wife, two daughters, and dog.
